Because the size of the territory of Romania has undergone many changes there are some raptures in the figures.
Short recapitulation of the historical development of the surface area of Romania (differences in size depending on the used sources):
   - from 1859-1878 (consisting of Walachia and Moldavia, both belonged until then to the Ottoman Empire [Turkey]): 120973 sq. km = 46708 sq.mi; -
   - from 1878-1913: (incl. northern Dobrudsha [Dobrogea], acquired from the Ottoman Empire [Turkey]) 129947 or 131853 sq.km = 50172 or 50908 sq.mi; -
   - from 1913-1918 (incl. the southern part of Dobrudsha, acquired from Bulgaria): 137902 or 139079 sq.km = 53244 or 53698 sq.mi; -
   - from 1920-1940 (incl. Bessarabia [acquired from the Russian Empire] and Transylvania and Bucovina [acquired from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire]): 294244, or 294967, or 295049 sq.km = resp. 113607, or 113887, or 113918 sq.mi; -
   - from 1941-1945 (minus Transylvania [occupied by Hungary]; southern Dobrudsha [returned to Bulgaria]; and Bessarabia plus northern Bucovina [ceded to the Soviet Union]): 192609 sq.km = 74366 sq.mi; -
   - from 1945 onwards: 237500 sq.km = 91699 sq.miles.
